Tampa Bay Skeptics

Psychic detective Noreen Renier has many critics and internationally recognized investigators who have uncovered deceptions and exaggerations in her books, psychic claims, public lectures, press statements, and even during testimony as has been showcased in summaries published in 2005, 2006, and early 2007. Even prior to the recent 2006 and 2007 federal court rulings won by Tennessee based critic and skeptic John Merrell against psychic Noreen Renier, Dr. Gary P. Posner, M.D., founder of the Tampa Bay Skeptics extensively and critically examined former Florida resident Noreen Renier. The material presented here was first published in 2006 with links. This material represents less than 3% of the original published content and is provided simply to avoid inquiries. This site no longer provides the full original content.

Recently critic Dr. Gary Posner updated his "Noreen Renier" page which contains a must-see link to his comments about Renier's revisions in her book A Mind For Murder.

Dr.Posner's web site material is extensive and offers critical examinations of claims and cases not covered here.   The 30-second video clip (left) reflects his thoughts while examining claims.

Prior to the U.S. District judge ordering Noreen Renier to pay Merrell nearly $40,000 in April 2007 and her second Chapter 7 bankruptcy filing in August 2007, Gary Posner authored a chapter in the 1994 book Psychic Sleuths titled The Media's Rising Star Psychic Sleuth: Noreen Renier .   That chapter also provides some well documented historical background on the original battle between critic Merrell and psychic Renier as outlined in the 2005 edition of A Mind For Murder.

Despite Renier's allegations against Posner on page 219 of the first versions of her 2005 book A Mind For Murder, Dr. Posner's paranormal investigative work is highly credible and has received widespread support from science personnel, educational specialists, and international journalists.

Tampa Bay Skeptics is a non-profit organization and special interest group of the Center For Inquiry Tampa Bay .

[Along with more than 50 references about John Merrell --- including multiple false statements --- all references to Gary Posner likewise disappeared in the 2008 edition of Renier's A Mind For Murder.   Renier evidently believes retracting her allegations against Merrell and Posner and ignoring relevant criticism is preferred to examining the facts.]

John Merrell and Gary Posner have known one another for more than 20 years. They remain key examiners of pseudo science claims.
